The Roots

Imported from Portland, Jamaica, the birthplace of Boston Jerk, Porty Vibez specializes in creating dishes with fresh, quality ingredients. Our approach to Jamaican food is "local and sustainably sourced ingredients, cooked fresh, with Jamaican herbs and spices."  I am combining a healthy and innovative take on traditional Jamaican dishes with Jamaica's love for the community into a restaurant concept-driven to bring people closer together around their love of food.

Porty Vibez’s name is derived from my hometown of Portland, Jamaica, where I first developed my love for the flavors of Jamaican cuisine. From the age of 12, I have been in the kitchen with my parents, whipping up authentic dishes for family dinners and get-togethers, just to keep the tradition alive. Those family recipes are the same ones I use to this day.

MEET THE CHEF

I was born in the vibrant Port Antonio, Jamaica, where I spent my early years soaking in sunshine until we made the exciting move to New York in March 1991, thanks to my grandma! However, with NYC's high cost of living, my mom made a fantastic decision in December 1991 to settle in Michigan, the perfect place for raising kids! Even though we were in the States, my family never stopped whipping up delicious, authentic Jamaican dishes and visiting Jamaica every year. I cherished playing with my cousins, feeling the cool breeze on the veranda, and spending countless hours on the beach savoring jerk chicken and festival. Cooking has always been my passion, and I've eagerly absorbed everything I learn over the years! I still get excited thinking about the joy of indulging in food from street vendors, restaurants, and family gatherings. Our meals were the heart of our family celebrations, filled with BBQs, music, and laughter. That same joy and warmth is what I aim to bring to every dish I create for you!
